IGBC Supports Economic Development Delegation to Switzerland
The International Center and the Indiana-Germanic Business Council were delighted to support Indy Economic Development Inc.’s delegation to Switzerland this summer. The group, which included representatives Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the Indiana Life Sciences Association, spent a week in Basel and Zurich, meeting with leaders in the life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, medical technology, digital heath and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The delegation met with executives from Roche and Novartis to further strengthen transatlantic collaboration and business ties with two of Switzerland’s largest companies by revenue. In 2024, Novartis opened the company’s largest radioligand therapy in Indianapolis before announcing an additional $125 million investment for radiopharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution on the city’s west side. Last year, Roche announced plans to invest $550 million towards a new CGM manufacturing facility in Indianapolis. The Circle City already serves as one of Roche’s two global distribution hubs, supporting shipments to 53 countries.
At dormakaba, a world leader in security and access solutions, the group met with the company’s executives to discuss advanced manufacturing, precision systems and what it takes to innovate at a global scale. Dormakaba Americas, which is headquartered on the northeast side of Indianapolis, is home to more than 1,000 employees.
In Basel, the delegation also met with representatives from Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area and The Office of Economy and Labour at the Canton of Basel-Stadt to explore opportunities for deeper bilateral collaboration and positioning Indianapolis as the core of the Bioheartland for global companies looking to grow in the U.S. Additionally, the group teamed up with the Indianapolis Colts and the Basel Gladiators American Football Team to a host a business networking reception to connect with leaders from sports, business, and government. As the Colts expand their presence in Switzerland through the NFL Global Markets Program, these relationships create new opportunities to showcase Indianapolis and build connections that can lead to future investment and partnership.
In Zurich, the delegation met with representatives from Switzerland Global Enterprise and Greater Zurich Area to discuss bilateral collaborations with Indianapolis and how the Circle City can help Swiss companies launch and expand in the U.S.
